Abstract

The kinetics of anionic polymerization of epoxy resin ED-22 under the action of imidazole initiators of various structures was studied by differential scanning calorimetry. The conversion of epoxy resin was studied by infrared spectroscopy as function of the amount of initiator in the reaction mixture and the polymerization temperature. The concentration of the initiator in the reaction mixture (2–3 wt %) was found, and the regime of polymerization with a gradual increase in temperature was determined, at which heat-resistant polymers with the highest glass transition temperatures and stable physical and mechanical parameters in a wide temperature range are formed. The possibility of using epoxy-imidazole reaction mixtures for fabricating heat-resistant composites is shown.
