Abstract

The mononuclear Cu(II) complex, Zn(II) complex, and homodinuclear Zn(II)-Zn(II) complex of 2-mercaptoquinoline N-oxide, have been synthesized as possible antibacterial agents. Their crystal structures analyzed by X-ray diffraction methods have shown that the structures of the two mononuclear complexes and a homodinuclear complex are markedly different. The antibacterial activities of complexes were investigated using the Oxford Cup method, and the result indicated that complexes have good antibacterial activity against Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus, and Candida albicans.
