Abstract

The concentrations of rare-earth elements (REEs) in technogenic (mine and sludge) and river waters of the Kavalerovsk and Dal’negorsk Districts of the Far East were estimated. It was shown that the mine waters of the Dubrovskoe deposit, Kavalerovsk District (mineralization 770 μg/L) are mostly enriched in REEs. Their highest concentrations were found in the sludge waters of the old tailing dump of the Krasnorechensk concentration plant (KCP), Dal’negorsk District (mineralization 1139 μg/L). In the immediate vicinity of the KCP old and new tailings, the Rudnaya River was found to be polluted with REEs. Since REEs are related to sulfide minerals, they can be extracted by the repeated processing of the wastes of the old and new KCP tailing dumps.
