Abstract

The kinetics of photosensitized oxidation of anthracene with singlet molecular oxygen (1Δg) in organic and aqueous-organic media were studied. The bimolecular rate constant of the reaction was determined, and its relation to solvent properties was revealed. On the basis of the obtained data, the empirical reaction rate constant in water was estimated at 2.3 × 106 l mol−1 s−1.
