Gravitational potential of the Earth’s crust as a promising energy proxy for seismic hazard assessment (by the example of southeastern Kazakhstan)

Abstract

The gravitational potential energy of the Earth’s crust in southeastern Kazakhstan relative to the subcrustal level is assessed. Neotectonic geological-geophysical control of variations in the gravitational potential is demonstrated. The seismic parameters are shown to be correlated with the gravitational potential energy and boundaries separating the layers of the Earth’s crust.
