Abstract
A procedure was developed for studying water retention hysteresis using a dew-point hygrometer and a Peltier psychrometer. Sorption curves derived using the former instrument can be applied for assessing the specific surface of soils by the single-point method (relative humidity 20%). It was shown that water hysteresis in soils and similar porous media with developed specific surfaces occurs in the potential range of −7.0 to −0.2 kJ/kg, which was previously inaccessible for experimental study. Based on the results obtained, the main hysteresis loop and scanning curves were plotted with the help of existing theories and then used in the SIM-DARS software to simulate results of physical experiments on nonisothermal water exchange in systems with a stepwise initial moisture distribution.
