Abstract

A microstrip beam-forming network designed to form a sector radiation pattern of a linear antenna array is considered. An approximate method is proposed for the synthesis of a device including the analysis of an infinite periodic system of coupled microstrip lines. Generalized parameters of the structure are found to choose the structural parameters of the network. The electrodynamic analysis is carried out in the HFSS system, and the amplitude–phase distribution formed in the output channels is calculated in a frequency band. A device that is developed, fabricated, and experimentally studied provides the formation of the desired amplitude–phase distribution in a frequency band of up to 80%. The experimental data are used in the HFSS system to simulate a beam-forming network with a linear array of horns. It is shown that the elements of such an array have almost rectangular radiation patterns.
