Frequency Dependence of the Directionality of the Output Radiation of a Plasma Relativistic Ultra-Frequency Generator

Abstract

The output path characteristics of a plasma relativistic microwave generator (PRG) was investigated. The dependence of the directional pattern (DP), the directional action factor (directivity) and the transfer characteristic on the frequency in the range of 3–10 GHz are obtained. A significant change in the shape of the DP and an increase in the directivity with increasing frequency and good matching of the transfer characteristic in a wide frequency range were found. It is shown that in the considered radiation extraction system it is necessary to carry out the optimal choice of the operating frequency of the PRG on the basis of a compromise between a high value of directivity and distortion of the directional pattern.
