Abstract

Numerical simulation of the properties of guided and leaky modes in W-type multilayer cylindrical optical fibers is performed. The dependences of the losses of leaky modes on the parameters of the W-type optical fiber are studied. It is shown that, for certain structures of the W-fiber, the leaky modes have substantial effect on the behavior of propagating radiation. It is shown that, when the mode structure of the radiation in W-type optical fibers is studied, both guided and leaky modes should be taken into account.
