Abstract

A new method for the visualization and diagnostics of transparent gradient inhomogeneities (3D laser refractography) is proposed. The method is based on the refraction of the structured laser radiation (SLR) in a transparent inhomogeneous medium, digital detection, and computer processing of 2D (in the transmitted radiation) and 3D (in the scattered radiation) refraction patterns. A scheme of the setup for the observation of 3D refractograms is presented, and a procedure for the construction of the refractograms using the experimental 2D refraction patterns of SLR is proposed. An algorithm for the reconstruction of the refractive index in the transient layer of stratified medium based on the 3D refractograms is described.
