Abstract
Under certain conditions, surface waves are excited during diffraction by a body with an impedance surface. In the problem on the incidence of a plane wave on a circular cylinder, the total field is decomposed in the fields of such surface waves, and this decomposition is a Watson series constructed similarly to the corresponding series for a metal sphere. The amplitudes of the excited waves and the field structure of these waves are found.
