Abstract

Excitation of a magnetodielectric plate with the parameters ɛ → −1 and μ → −1 by an elementary electric dipole is considered. The behavior of the wave field is investigated in the case when the values of the constitutive parameters approach the singular point ɛ = μ = −1 along the curve ɛμ = 1. A condition is established under which the transverse dimension of the field in the focal plane of the lens is smaller than the diffraction limit. The dimension of the spot is expressed in an explicit form. It is shown, that, in the situation considered, the effect of longitudinal focusing is absent.
