The Influence of Interstitial and Substitutional Atoms on the Magnetic Properties of Sm2Fe17 Compound

Abstract

Alloys (Sm1 – xRx)2Fe17 (R = Ho, Er; x = 0.1, 0.2, 0.4) were obtained by induction melting in inert atmosphere. Structure and magnetic hysteresis properties of the initial compounds and their hydrides were investigated. It was found that ( (Sm1 – xRx)2Fe17Hy hydrides preserved the rhombohedral Th2Zn17-type structure (space group R3m) like initial compounds. Hydrogenation leads to a significant increase in the Curie temperature and saturation magnetization at room temperature. Compositions with potentially high magnetic characteristics have been determined.
