Abstract
Peculiarities of ion trapping and principles of its stabilization under the action of dynamic variable pseudopotential that appears as a result of the phase modulation of a holding electric field are considered. It is established that the zones of stability are deformed relative to those in the case of a harmonically modulated field. Conditions of ion localization under the action of aperiodically modulated voltage are found and an expression for the holding pseudopotential is obtained in the general case of an exciting signal.
