Side-face radiation trapping by optical fibers

  • Published:
Technical Physics Letters Aims and scope Submit manuscript

Abstract

Radiation striking the side surface of an optical fiber can be trapped as result of scattering on the fiber wall. The mechanism of trapping is analyzed, a mathematical model of this phenomenon is presented, and the results of experimental investigations using poly (methyl methacrylate) fibers are reported.
