A new branch of instability of the magnetohydrodynamic Poiseuille flow in a longitudinal magnetic field

Abstract

We have studied the stability of the flow of a conducting viscous fluid in a flat channel in the presence of a longitudinal magnetic field. A new branch of instability has been found and a jumplike change in the critical Reynolds number has been observed.
