Abstract
We present the results of theoretical justification of a method for determining distances to objects that makes use of a frequency-switched semiconductor laser diode operating in the autodyne regime. It is shown that, by determining the ratio of harmonics in the low-frequency spectrum of the current-modulated autodyne signal, it is possible to determine the distance to an object with a 1% accuracy.
