Abstract
We have analyzed the amplitude of spectral components of an autodyne signal formed using laser radiation reflected from an external object performing harmonic oscillations with unknown amplitude. Based on this analysis, a new method is proposed, theoretically substantiated, and experimentally verified that allows the amplitude of nanometer-scale vibrations of the object to be determined by measuring the spectrum of a semiconductor laser operating in the autodyne regime and taking the ratio of the first two harmonics in this spectrum.
