Abstract
The microstructure and composition of steel targets bombarded by microparticles with a velocity of 0.8–1.5 km/s at a flux density of 2–5 g/cm3 was studied by scanning electron microscopy and electron probe microanalysis. The observed inhomogeneities in the sample microstructure are not related to the projectile material. These inhomogeneities represent the regions of local deformation, which appear as a result of loading in the elastoplastic domain and increase with the level of pressure in the primary shock wave.
