Abstract

The thermionic emission current from a metal cathode possessing a nanocrystalline (fractal) structure is calculated within the framework of a model assuming that thermoelectrons form a nondegenerate gas with an arbitrary dimension parameter, which characterizes the density and fractal properties of the gas. A method is proposed for determining the fractal dimension from the temperature dependence of the thermionic emission current.
