Abstract
The effect of the bandwidth of a microwave pulse on the efficiency of its compression by a nonreflective cavity is considered as applied to linear accelerators. In the case of a Gaussian pulse, it is shown that the optimal time dependence of the phase approaches the quadratic dependence upon a decrease in the bandwidth.
