Mechanism of self-focusing of laser pulses on dynamic lenses in transparent media

Abstract

We propose the physical and mathematical models for the mechanism explaining the reduction in experimental breakdown thresholds of optical materials by self-focusing of radiation on dynamic irregularities of the refractive index (dynamic lenses) as compared to avalanche ionization and multiphoton absorption predicted by theories.
