Abstract
The feasibility of using structurally simple gridless electrostatic ion mirrors with a 2D field distribution in high-resolution time-of-flight (TOF) mass reflectrons is studied by numerical simulation. The configuration of a mirror with two control potentials providing third-order TOF focusing on energy and small TOF aberrations on spatial coordinates of the ion bunch is described.
