Abstract
A critical analysis of Landau and Lifshitz’s data concerning the instability of a tangential discontinuity in a compressible liquid is given. The simplest case when the liquid flow velocity alone experiences a discontinuity is considered. The influence of a high transverse gravitational field on the stability of a tangential discontinuity is investigated.
