Sputtering and electron excitation of gold by hydrogen atoms of thermal energies

Abstract

The effect of gold sputtering by atomic hydrogen is discovered. It is established that the sputtering mechanism is related to the electron excitation of the metal via the heterogeneous reaction H + H → H2.
