Abstract

We consider the passage of a plane electromagnetic wave through a 1D absorbing layer sandwiched between two generally different semi-infinite dielectrics. The transmission, reflection, and absorption spectra of the incident wave, as well as the electric field intensity distribution in the absorbing layer, are obtained using the transfer matrix method and the method based on the solution of the Cauchy problem for a system of two first-order differential equations.
