Abstract

The possibility of using gadolinium titanate single crystals in quantum electronics is considered. This compound has been chosen as a result of consideration of possible stable chemical compounds in the gadolinium oxide–titanium oxide system. The technology of growing gadolinium titanate single crystals doped with neodymium ions by optical zone melting, which excludes the possibility of contaminating material during crystal growth, is developed. Absorption and luminescence spectra in the range from helium to room temperature and stimulated emission in this material with neodymium ions used as activator centers have been studied. An energy-level diagram of Nd3+ ion in the gadolinium titanate lattice is constructed based on the analysis of spectroscopic data. It is shown that there may be at least three types of optical centers containing Nd3+ ions in the gadolinium titanate lattice.
