Abstract

The results of numerical simulations aimed at studying large-scale morphological features in the structure of spiral galaxies are presented. The behavior of a gaseous disk in an external gravitational potential that does not contain slow spiral modes is studied. The polygonal pattern that arises in the gaseous component displays transient properties characteristic of the non-stationary dynamics of the spiral pattern.
