Abstract

In this research, a type of magnetic ionic liquid-based nanoparticles (MNPs@PIL) was designed and prepared via free radical polymerization. The structure of MNPs@PIL was characterized using X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, energy dispersive X-ray analysis, transmission electron microscopy, and Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy. MNPs@PIL were successfully applied as a selective adsorbent for the extraction of ciprofloxacin and levofloxacin in water and human urine samples by using the magnetic solid-phase extraction method. The effects of different factors such as pH of sample solution, adsorbent amount, sample volumes, adsorption and desorption time, temperature, and ion strength were studied. Under the optimum experimental conditions, the limits of detection of the proposed method for ciprofloxacin and levofloxacin were obtained as 0.05 and 0.03 ppm, respectively. The reusability experiments showed that about 95% of the initial adsorption was obtained after ten cycles.
