Abstract—
The numerical simulations are conducted with the coupled general circulation model for various lengths of the annual cycle. The modeling results confirm a previous conclusion, which is based on analysis of climate data using a special method of amplitude phase characteristics, that the thickness of the troposphere (the height of the tropopause) corresponds to the height of the temperature skin layer for the atmosphere under periodic heating from the surface related with the annual insolation cycle. In particular, the model height of the tropopause for half of the duration of the annual cycle is lower by \(\sqrt 2 \) in comparison with the present-day length of the annual cycle.
