Abstract

The method of bilayer deposition on the surface of silicon from a solution of unilamellar vesicles is tested via neutron reflectometry. A neutron reflectivity curve from the lipid bilayer of the dimyristoyl phosphatidylcholine (DMPC) is acquired in an excess of water. Analysis of the reflectivity curves is carried out in the step-function approximation of the distribution of the neutron scattering length density at the silicon–liquid interface. The lipid bilayer thickness is calculated as 45 ± 6 Å at a temperature of 30°C.
