This issue contains the papers prepared by the members of the First School for Young Scientists “Electrochemical Devices: Processes, Materials, Technologies” which was carried out on October 18–20, 2021 in the Novosibirsk Akademgorodok on the basis of the Institute of Solid State Chemistry and Mechanochemistry of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences (ISSCM SB RAS). Its Organization Committee was headed by the Director of ISSCM SB RAS, the corresponding member of RAS A.P. Nemudryi. The Organization Committee included the leading scientists from Novosibirsk, Yekaterinburg, Moscow, and Chernogolovka. In view of the current epidemiological situation, all events were carried out in the hybrid format.

This school engaged young scientists, students and postgraduate students. The lectures were delivered by the leading specialists in the field of electrochemical materials and devices: academician N.Z. Lyakhov, corresponding members of RAS A.P. Nemudryi, E.V. Antipov, A.B. Yaroslavtsev, and other widely acknowledged scientists from the research institutes of Novosibirsk, Yekaterinburg, Moscow, Chernogolovka, and Kirov and also by representatives of the following companies: InEnergy, Unikat, Topaz, Soyuz, etc. The scientific program contained reports on the state-of-the-art and the prospects of the research in the topical fields of power production, solid-state chemistry, and materials science, in which the following aspects were considered:

— specific features of physicochemical processes in electrochemical cells;

— new materials for power production including nanosized and composite materials;

— theoretical and practical aspects of solid-state chemistry in electrochemical cells.

In addition, the program included 36 oral reports and posters presented by young scientists, students, and post-graduates from 12 research and educational organizations of the Russian Federation. The Organization Committee of the School recommended the best reports for publication in a special issue of the Russian Journal of Electrochemistry.

The School for Young Scientists “Electrochemical Devices: Processes, Materials, Technologies” was supported by the Russian Scientific Foundation (Project no. 21-79-30051).
