Saturation of the arterial blood hemoglobin with oxygen (SaO2) in response to breathing a hypoxic mixture

Abstract

The hypothesis of the exponential dependence of transient processes described by the curve of saturation of arterial blood hemoglobin with oxygen (SaO2) during alternatively breathing a hypoxic mixture (10–13% O2) and room air. A formalized description of the SaO2 curve provides important parameters of the oxygen transportation system and the individual phases of its functioning. The saturation curve characteristic of the transient processes during hypoxic exposure is adequately approximated by the exponential function. The exponential curve parameters are assumed to be useful for estimating the individual hypoxic resistance of the human body.
