Abstract

The oxygen regime of the channel flow of the small Maima River (Upper Ob basin) has been considered. A study of the spatial and seasonal variations of oxygen regime characteristics in the mouth part of the river and its tributaries has shown that they vary from their sources to the mouths. The effect of the industrial–residential agglomeration of Gorno-Altaisk on surface water quality in the region has been assessed. The oxygen regime was found to deteriorate from large to small rivers and their tributaries. An integral index of surface runoff by oxygen regime characteristics is proposed: high quality (low-pollution water)―less than 10 units, medium quality (polluted water)―10–30 units, and low quality (polluted water)―more than 30 units.
