Revisiting the possible influence of subsurface water on the Caspian Sea level

Abstract

The likely mass fluxes of deep fluids in the Caspian sedimentary basin have been considered. All such flows have been found to be at least several orders of magnitude less than the water mass required for Caspian Sea level rising by 1 cm/year. It has been proved that any substantial changes in Caspian Sea level can be caused only by an active response of the Caspian sedimentary mantle to tectonic stress in the consolidated basement.
