Abstract

Present-day diatom complexes from five high-mountain lakes in the Elbrus region (the Republic of Kabardino-Balkaria). The studies were carried out in 2009. A method of graphical analysis of taxonomic proportions in diatom complexes was used to assess the environmental conditions of lakes. The results of studies have not reveal any significant adverse anthropogenic impact. Lake Donguz-Orun was recommended for farther paleogeographic reconstructions of the modern climatic events by bottom sediments.
