Abstract

For the perspective use of groundwater and its protection, natural groundwater protection was assessed in the southern region of the Russian Federation. Regional assessment and mapping of groundwater protection against pollution were carried out at a scale of 1: 1500000. A set of schematic maps was constructed, including maps of the protection zone (basic), the effect of hydrogeological factors on groundwater protection against pollution (intermediate); groundwater protection against pollution (resultant) with the use of GIS-technologies. The obtained maps can serve as a basis for further design and implementation of an integrated environmental monitoring in the region.
