Abstract

Some key features of water qualimetry are considered. This scientific discipline deals with the quantitative estimation of the quality of water, a critical natural component of the planet, with the aim to incorporate water use into market economy and form a market of water management services. A calculation procedure has been developed for the reduction of risks of erroneous estimates of water quality to the acceptable level in the case of variations (natural variability) in the characteristics to be controlled, the frequency of measurements, and their metrological error. Principles are proposed for establishing correct water trade relationships based on statistical acceptance control. A specific case is used to demonstrate the necessity of an a posteriori quantitative evaluation of water quality and the leveling of risks of the supplier and the consumer.
