Abstract

A model of a nonstatioary Markov chain is proposed for the description of regularities in the intra-annual variations in the level of a drainless water body. The Caspian Sea is used as an example to show that nonstationary model is of greater physical meaning for explaining long-period level variations than its stationary analogue.
