Abstract
New methodological approaches for establishing the standards on the quality of water in the water bodies that were developed on the basis of existing federal laws and normative documents in the field of environment protection are presented. Criteria used for assessing the contamination extent of the water bodies are enlisted, and possible techniques for high-quality treatment of water that allows smaller amounts of environmentally hazardous substances to be discharged into the biosphere are indicated.
