Abstract
The reconstructed part of the series of monthly mean Wolf numbers (for the period from 1749 to 1849) is estimated, and a conclusion about its irregular character is made. The estimation criteria are taken from the properties of the remaining part of the Wolf series (1849–2004). The further analysis of the components of the latter series made it possible to choose a transformation leading to the regularization of the solar-cycle characteristics and, as a consequence, to their model description. The cycle properties are differentiated by their parity and the broken relation of the maxima of cycles 22 and 23 is restored. The long-period component of the series (from 1849 to 2004) is interpolated by a sinusoidal function with a period of ∼150 years. This allows us to perform an inverse transformation on an external time interval and correct the reconstructed part of the Wolf series.
