Abstract

The effect redox treatments have on the state of platinum in systems KxH4−x[SiW11PtO39]/ZrO2–Al2O3 and KxH6−x[SiW11NiO39] + KxH4 – x[SiW11PtO39]/ZrO2–Al2O3 is studied using the DRIFTS method with CO as the probe molecule. It is found that platinum was in the Pt2+ and Pt+ states in the initial sample calcined at 400°C with deposited Pt–heteropoly compounds (HPCs). Platinum was in the Pt2+ and Pt0 states in the initial sample of Pt-HPC + Ni-HPC calcined with the deposited mixture at 400°C. A comparison of two samples shows that mixing Pt-HPC with Ni-HPC improves the thermal stability of the former in redox cycles at 300°C.
