Abstract
The mechanism of water oxidation in coordination spheres of tetranuclear and octanuclear ruthenium(IV) clusters, which are prospective catalysts for water oxidation in artificial photosyntesis, is studied. It is shown that these clusters are formed in situ from ruthenium complexes K4[Ru2(SO4)2(µ-SO4)2(µ-O)2] · 4H2O; in concerted reactions, they produce one O2 molecule via the four-electron oxidation of water and two O2 molecules via the four-electron oxidation of water, respectively.
