Abstract

The retention times for seven monosaccharides (rhamnose, xylose, arabinose, fructose, glucose, galactose, and mannose) and three disaccharides (maltose, lactose, and saccharose) on mesoporous aminated silica were measured at 298 K by using acetonitrile-water mixtures of various compositions as the mobile phases. The retention times were used for calculating the Henry law constants, distribution coefficients, and Helmholtz energy changes for the adsorption process. The relationship between the adsorption characteristics and the structure of the mono-and disaccharides was considered. In the description of the concentration dependences of the distribution coefficients of the carbohydrates between the surface and bulk phases, the exchange process in the adsorption layer and the bulk solution was discussed.
