Abstract

A new genus of eel cods Notomuraenobathys gen. nov. with a single species Notomuraenobathys microcephalus (Norman, 1937) is described. The new genus differs from Muraenolepis in greater number of vertebrae, body proportions, and newly found structural traits of the seismosensory system. The species description is supplemented with the results of X-ray investigation, including the data on the holotype (BMNH 1937.9.21.96)
