Genetic-biochemical analysis of hybrids between Arctic cisco Coregonus autumnalis migratorius and lake-river whitefish C. lavaretus pidschian from Lake Baikal

Abstract

Among the natural hybrids of coregonid fishes in Lake Baikal, the hybrids of the first generation from crossing Arctic cisco Coregonus autumnalis migratorius and lake-river whitefish (pidschian) C. lavaretus pidschian are the most abundant. They are well-identified morphologically. The data of the analysis of allozyme variations confirm the validity of the morphological determination of different Baikal coregonid forms and their hybrids, but do not allow a strict evaluation of its accuracy.
