Abstract

The species Electrotoma kopylovi sp. nov. is described from a larva (prepupa) from the Upper Eocene Baltic amber. It is the second find of a fossil of the family Electrotomidae. The new species differs from the only known congeneric specimen, E. succini Rasnitsyn, 1977 in the closer placed antenna and stemma, less shortened clypeus, symmetrical labrum and denser chaetae on head and thorax. The composition of E. kopylovi syninclusions supports the previously stated hypothesis that a combination of unusual circumstances were required for electrotomids to be preserved in resin.
