Shimansky (1968) proposed the name Linter Shimansky for a genus of Early Carboniferous nautiloids. Shimansky placed this genus in the family Pseudactinoceratidae Schindewolf, 1943, order Actinocerida. The genus includes two valid species: the type species Linter incommoda Shimansky, 1968 and L. deflexum (Trautschold, 1867). However, the generic name Linter Shimansky, 1968 is preoccupied: it was used by Stephenson (Stephenson, 1937) for the Late Cretaceous bivalve genus Linter Stephenson, 1937 (Bivalvia, Pteriomorphia, Arcida).

Herein, in accordance with ICZN Article 60.3 (International…, 1999), a new replacement name Linteroceras Mironenko, nom. nov is proposed for the genus Linter Shimansky, 1968. The genus name is derived the Latin word “linter” (boat) (the stem also used by Shimansky (1968)) and ceras (Greek—horn), traditionally used in many generic names of fossil cephalopods and should be treated as neuter.
