The genus Verneuilites Bensh et Kireeva in Bensh, 1987 (Foraminifera; Permian) with the type species Pseudofusulina urdalensis Rauser, 1940 (Rauser-Chernousova, 1940) was established for part of the previously established heterogenous genus Pseudofusulina (Dunbar and Skinner, 1931) from the Lower Permian deposits of West Texas (USA). Verneuilites Bensh et Kireeva, 1987 in Bensh, 1987 was assigned by Bensh (1987) to the subfamily Pseudofusulininae Dutkevich, 1934, emend. M.-Maclay, 1959 in the family Pseudofusulinidae Dutkevich, 1934, emend. M.-Maclay, 1959 in the order Schwagerinida Dunbar et Henbest, 1930 in the superorder Fusulinoida Fursenko, 1958, and was accepted in the “Spravochnik po sistematike” (1996). However, the name was preoccupied by the ammonite generic name Verneuilites proposed by Librovitch (1939) and since used in cephalopod taxonomy (Ruzhencev, 1960). In accordance with ICZN Article 53. 2 (International…, 1999), the generic name Verneuilites Bensh et Kireeva, 1987 is a junior generic homonym, and must be replaced. We propose the new replacement name Uraloverneuilites Isakova, nom. nov., indicating the distribution of the type species of this genus (the Urals).
