The generic name Adamas (type species A. hukawngensis Chen et Wang, 2020 by original designation) was proposed by Chen and Wang (Chen and Wang, 2020) for a new genus of timber beetles from Cenomanian Kachin amber (Myanmar). However, this name was preoccupied.

The name Adamas Malaise, 1945 (Malaise, 1945, p. 97) was previously proposed for an extant sawfly genus (Insecta, Hymenoptera, Symphyta, Tenthredinidae), as an unnecessary replacement name for the name Dinax Konow, 1897, nom. rev. (Blank et al., 2009).

In this regard, the replacement generic name Anancites Perkovsky, nom. nov. (another name for diamond according to Pliny the Elder, Lat.) and the species name of the type species Anancites hukawngensis (Chen et Wang, 2020) comb. nov. are offered here for the Kachin amber beetle.

Interestingly, the name Adamas was used again, after its use for the sawfly, for an African genus of fish (Huber, 1979, 2007), and the subsequent replacement of the name of this genus in a predominantly electronic publication (Özdikmen et al, 2006) provoked discussion (Huber, 2007; Özdikmen, 2008; Sonnenberg and van der Zee, 2008).

I informed the authors of the genus Adamas about the need to propose a replacement name for it on March 3, 2020, but received no response.
